Monster Mash & The Day I Died

I don't necessarily celebrate Halloween, though I do buy some candy for the kids (most of which gets eaten before Halloween arrives). However, I do celebrate Mrs. Pistachio's Birthday, which is Today. So, for those of you looking for tonight's episode of Political Pistachio Radio, we had it last night. Next week will be the same, with a special Tuesday edition since November 7th is my daughter's birthday. By the way, that will be my 50th Episode.

:)

And as luck would have it, the live part of Tuesday's show was interrupted by a freeze up of Blog Talk Radio's system (Halloween bad luck?), but it resumed okay, and the archive is intact. Trek Medic was our guest, and we talked about the need for a Red November.

Anyhow, have a safe Halloween, and don't eat too much candy.

Oh, by the way, this Saturday is a very special episode of Political Pistachio Radio. The title of November 3rd's show is "The Day I Died."

2007 Valour-IT Competition

from: http://www.valour-it.blogspot.com/

Valour-IT has had a great year of fundraising, but the needs of the wounded continue, and our coffers are empty.

Just in time, because the 2007 Valour-IT Veterans Day Fundraising Competition begins on Monday, October 29. Last year a merry band of milbloggers and friends raised over $230,000 dollars. Stopping Hillary and the Marxists of the Democratic Party

How important is the hunt for a Red November in 2008? As discussed on The Andrea Shea King Show earlier this evening, is the need to keep the Socialists that call themselves Democrats urgent enough to place a Liberal in Elephant's clothing, like Rudy Giuliani, on the ballot, since he seems the best candidate capable of attracting the all-important swing votes?

As a Conservative, that seems a compromise that I don't wish to make - but is it the necessary move to keep someone like Hillary Clinton out of the White House?

Tuesday Night my guest is Trek Medic. He will join us to talk about the need for a Red November, and what steps must be taken to ensure such a move. Live broadcast begins at 10pm Eastern Time, 7pm Pacific on Political Pistachio Radio.

Vegas Adventure (Fires, and Liberals, and dirt, oh my!)

Well, after a measley two posts last week, it is time to get back into that "post per day - or maybe more" mode.

The Radio Show, thanks to my sudden trip to Las Vegas for my employer, was run from the internet end, by Mrs. Pistachio. Tuesday's and Wednesday's shows came across just fine, and in fact Wednesday's interview with Jason Robertson earned the best live numbers in the short history of Political Pistachio Radio. As for myself, I was conducting the show through the landline at the Hotel I was staying in while in Vegas.

We departed from Southern California on Tuesday and passed through the area where the San Bernardino wildfire was burning. Meanwhile, the winds were strong (I believe I saw a report stating they were hitting 90 miles per hour), and I saw a couple rigs topple to their sides on the shoulder of the highway. At one point the flames from the fire were burning against the edge of the freeway, and the only thing that kept the embers from blowing onto our vehicles was the fact the wind was blowing away from us.

The trip lasted about six hours, and when we arrived in Las Vegas, we pulled the Big Rig onto the Air Force Base we were going to work on, went through paperwork and received our passes, and then commenced to work for six hours.

And what a dusty mess that was. We quit working simply because dust control, as the wind whipped up, was unable to keep the dust down, and we received a warning for the dust. In fact, as it was explained to me, even walking and kicking up dust with your boots is technically a violation. The fine is, from what I understood, $5,000.

Oh, and the fine is higher for getting near a particular plant in the area considered to be endangered.

Isn't Nevada wonderful?

After taking a look at what I think was the endangered plant, by the way, I decided it looked like a weed to me.

That night we had the "Max Lucado" episode of Political Pistachio, but unfortunately the guest failed to call in, but Mrs. Pistachio and I ran the show anyway, speaking a little about Max Lucado, and a lot about our marriage, and our faith. Listen by clicking the link just a little above this sentence.

The following evening, before the Jason Robertson interview on Political Pistachio Radio, I met with a fellow Blog Talk Radio host (though a liberal). He hosts a show called No BS Found Here. And he asked a question that caught me off guard. It was regarding the prospect of Universal Health Care. He asked how I was going to provide pap smears and breast exams for my wife and daughter when health care costs became impossible to pay.

Personal Responsibility is my answer. The Government can't even balance the budget but people like KJ wants the government to run our health care? How insane is that? Besides, as a responsible citizen it is my duty to ensure I provide for my family, and I do so. Just because there are those that failed at it doesn't mean we should all be forced into a system that has been proven to fail. Just take a look at Canada and Europe. Absolute failures. Our health system isn't the best in the world for nothing. Turn it into a government beaurocracy and the best minds will stop becoming doctors because rather than being lucrative, being a doctor will be nothing more than just another government job. Wake up, people. Socialized medicine is a failure and takes away freedoms. One question: What if I don't want to participate? Buzzzzz. Wrong answer. According to the Dems, participation is mandatory. What are they going to do? Put me in jail for failing to participate in this Marxist health care system?

We returned to California on Friday, and because some dirt was on the machine, we were required to clean the machine again at a Truck Wash because California (now get this. . .) does not allow out of state dirt to enter the state. That's right, Agriculture here in California will not allow out of state dirt into California.

Jeeez.

Okay, I won't complain too bad, because the reasons are pretty noble. The reason primarily centers around keeping out of the state elements that may prove detrimental to California crops.

Then, we returned to the Fire Storm affected areas, and to our homes. The fires were less severe by then, but were still burning. Entire neighborhoods, in some cases, burned to the ground during our absence. A couple of times fires came relatively close to my own home, but thank God it was still there when I arrived. And during the trip home, I joined CIR Radio in a discussion that you folks will probably enjoy.

Now, I am just glad to be home.

On Saturday I was joined (about twenty minutes into the show) by John from Cuba Companioni - and his discussion about being a Cuban exile and escaping the tyrrany of Fidel Castro on Political Pistachio Radio is also worth a listen.

And Monday? Well, that's when I once again join Andrea Shea King on her Blog Talk Radio show, and the guest will be John Podhoretz, Fox News Contributor who is a best-selling author. He will be on the air to tell us why we need to stop Hillary, and how to stop Hillary Clinton in 2008! The show will start at 9pm Eastern Time.

Tuesday will be the Halloween Episode of Political Pistachio Radio. It airs on October 30, 2007 at 10pm Eastern. No Wednesday show this week so that I can go trick or treating. No, just kidding. Actually, October 31st is Mrs. Pistachio's Birthday, and as much as I love you guys out there in the blogosphere, Mrs. Pistachio is more important. :)

Cuba Companioni

I made it back to Fire drenched Southern California just in time for the smoke to clear and head eastward from whence I came. In fact, today we are actually enjoying a little bit of a sprinkle from the heavens, which will surely assist the fire fighters in their battle with the flames, as well as knock a lot of the smoke out of the air.

Today, on Political Pistachio Radio, is John from Cuba Companioni. John, as a child, was exiled from Cuba with his mom, because of their faith in Christ. They fled Cuba to the United States of America. If anyone knows what it is like to live under the iron fist of a tyrant, and why this war on terror is so important to win, John knows.

Christian Radio hosted from Sin City

Did you miss Andrea Shea King's Monday Night Blog Talk Radio Show?

Well, judging by the picture on the right, Andrea is someone to listen to. She's a big voice in conservative talk radio - and any friend of Sean Hannity's is a friend of mine.

Well, actually I became a fan long before I discovered she has a few wonderful friends in high places. And, she discovered me before she was absolutely sure what the heck a Political Pistachio truly was.

And now we have really come together on Monday nights. That's right, if you are new to Political Pistachio, I co-host with Andrea Shea King on Monday nights on Blog Talk Radio. But honestly, as much as I enjoy the show, this last one was the best yet. We discussed the Southern California Fires, and the Republican Debate in Florida, and what a great broadcast it turned out to be. But don't take my word for it. Check out the archive at Blog Talk Radio - The Andrea Shea King Show!

And while you are at it, check out this upcoming schedule for Political Pistachio!

Tuesday, October 23, 2007 @ 10pm Eastern/7pm Pacific: Max Lucado - Author of "3:16 - The Numbers of Hope." Max is a New York Times Best-Selling Author, and the leading Christian Author in America.

Wednesday, October 24, 2007 @ 10pm Eastern/7pm Pacific: Jason Robertson, Author of "A Love Beyond Explaining." Jason was a Vietnam war orphan pulled from Vietnam as the south fell. Raised by a loving Christian woman, Jason grew up in America. However, 30 years after fleeing from Vietnam, he returned in search of his roots.

Saturday, October 27, 2007 @ 7pm Eastern/4pm Pacific: John from Cuba Companioni was exiled from Cuba, and fled to the United States. His crime? Being a Christian. Join us to follow his journey from the oppression of the communist regime in Cuba to the wonders of free America beginning in New York City, and completing in Alabama.

And while you are at it, I am also a co-host/panel member of CIR Radio. That airs on Friday Night at 9pm Eastern/6pm Pacific.

Oh, did I mention I will be in Las Vegas during the broadcasts? Work sent me to Vegas, but my voice will be on Blog Talk Radio!

California Fires & Republican Debate in Florida/Hope for a Red November, Oh, and a word about Blog Talk Radio!

As the fires burned in Southern California last night, and the smokey smell filled my office due to my proximity to the San Diego County Fire and the Santiago Canyon Fire, which burned its way through the "yard" of the company I work for (taking with it none of our big rigs and equipment, but torching my boss's RV sitting on the property), I sat here and watched the Republican Debate live on Fox News.

The morning came, and the fires had worsened. I stepped out of my house into a world of gray and brown skies, howling winds (reaching over 50 mph where I live, and up to 90 miles per hour in some of the nearby canyons).

Wildfires here in Southern California are fairly commonplace, but not like this. The worse fire ever that I know of happened a few years ago just south of me. It was called the Cedar Fire. This year's fires are much worse. The one in San Diego County, the big one known as the Witch Fire, has caused 250,000 people to be evacuated in a 100 mile radius, and there is the belief that this particular fire may burn all the way to the Pacific Ocean, leaving behind it a blackened path of devastation.

The strong Santa Ana winds are fueling these fires. Governor Schwarzenegger has declared a State of Emergency for seven counties in the Southern California area. The Witch Fire, the one that is burning in San Diego the worst, has burned homes as far north as Escondido, and they are evacuating people as far north as Fallbrook. Escondido is about 30 miles south from where I live, and Fallbrook is ten to fifteen minutes down the road. I am hoping and praying that it does not turn northward, blazing through Temecula and Murrieta.

And even as I write this now, the winds are howling, and the smell of burning vegetation is in the air.

My prayers go out to those firefighters and home owners in the fire zones, and those that have lost their homes. I remember a few years ago when a blaze came less than a mile from my house, and another time when a raging inferno in the Cleveland National Forest got within two blocks of my parent's house. It is a frightening thing, but beyond the home and valuables are the lives of those people. Getting out alive is the most important thing.

By God's Grace, only one person has lost their life during this year's commencement of firestorms. I pray that the one life lost will be the last one lost this year, and I pray for the family members of that person who died.

Also, last night, while not watching news on the fires, I turned my attention to the first Republican debate that actually seemed like the fires of conservatism burned within the candidates. The debate was held in Florida, and Andrea Shea King was there! Tonight on her radio show, The Andrea Shea King Show, she and I will discuss the debate (and I will probably talk a little more about the fires too).

Also, before the debate began Fox News had a room full of Florida Republicans and asked them a number of questions. One, based on comments by the people in this room, was "How many in this room thinks Hillary's a socialist?" Every hand in the room shot up.

Interestingly, the need to beat Hillary is what united the candidates last night. The only booing occurred whenever Hillary was mentioned, or Ron Paul opened his mouth. When asked about Hillary, Mike Huckabee said, "There is nothing funny about a Hillary Clinton Presidency. With Hillary Clinton as president taxes will be up, health care will be controlled by the U.S. Government, our sovereignty will be compromised, and the military loses its morale." He later commented, in a direct statement to Hillary (in case she was listening) for Hillary to ". . . take your lips off the backside of George Soros."

Mitt Romney asked the audience what they thought about a Hillary presidency and they all shouted "No!" He said, "I agree with them."

McCain, however, was the one that earned a standing ovation. When commenting on Hillary Clinton's earmark to last week's budget amendment for one million dollars for a Woodstock music museum to commemorate the 1969 festival, McCain said, "I wasn't there. I'm sure it was a cultural and pharmaceutical event. I was tied up at the time [apparently referring to his status as a Prisoner of War at the time]." Oh, and don't forget, this museum to the liberal hippies would be at the expense of taxpayers.

McCain also impressed with his comment that parodied Bush's comment about looking into the eyes of Putin (Russia's current president) and seeing his soul. McCain said that he has looked into Putin's eyes too, and saw three letters: KGB.

In the past, I have to say, I have been very careful about John McCain, primarily because of his past "maverick" moves, and the McCain–Feingold Act of which I felt was poorly written and provides too many restrictions in the wrong places. I have also been leery of him as well due to his criticisms of the Bush Administration regarding the war on terror. However, his comments, steadfast consistency, and reach for the conservatives may have moved me back in his direction. He hasn't won me over, but he has made me think twice about letting him go.

Huckabee, once again had a great showing, but was not given nearly enough air-time, and proved once again that as good as a candidate as he is for president, his best bet is probably for vice president.

And we mustn't forget, of all of those guys up there, nobody understands the military like McCain - who is a certified war hero.

Thompson did much better than before, but still failed to impress. Perhaps his past voting record and membership to the Council on Foreign Relations still spooks me.

Hunter, as much as I like him, had little effect, as did Tancredo.

Perhaps we need some of the conservative independents, like John Bootie, to get in on these debates. And how about Sarah Palin? When is she going to be added to the group as a possible factor in the election?

-----------------------------

If you missed last Friday's episode of CIR Radio, go and listen to it when you get the chance. MDConservative and I hit the issues pretty hard on the show. And, to many of the listeners surprise, I spoke a couple words of profanity. (you'll have to listen to find out what they were, and why I said them!) I shocked even myself - and don't worry, I don't plan to make such language a practice.

On Saturday I erroneously thought the date was the 21st when I introduced the show, but that was the only thing to go wrong on Political Pistachio Radio. My guest was Paul Ibbetson, Patriot Act Expert. If you missed it, listen. It was a fantastic show.

And as mentioned earlier, I will be on Andrea Shea King's show to discuss the Southern California fires, and last night's Republican Presidential Debate on Fox News Channel. The live feed begins at 9pm Eastern Time. You may listen to the archive anytime afterward.

Tomorrow and Wednesday are special shows for Political Pistachio. Both air at 10pm Eastern Time. On Tuesday my guest will be Max Lucado. On Wednesday, Jason Robertson. Max Lucado is a New York Times Best-Selling author, and America's leading inspirational author. He will be on Political Pistachio Radio to discuss his latest book, "3:16 - The Numbers of Hope." Jason Robertson is the author of "A Love Beyond Explaining." He is a Vietnam War orphan rescued from South Vietnam before it fell to the communists. Thirty years later he returned to Vietnam in search of his roots.

And don't forget on Saturday Political Pistachio Returns again with John from Cuba Companioni who as a child was exiled from Cuba for being a Christian. Tune in to hear his story at 7pm Eastern Time.

Common Sense Dyslexia

According to MedicineNet.com Dyslexia is a "specific reading disability due to a defect in the brain's processing of graphic symbols. Dyslexia is a learning disability that alters the way the brain processes written material. . . The effects of dyslexia. . . vary from person to person. The only shared trait among people with dyslexia is that they read at levels significantly lower than typical for people of their age. . .The prognosis (outlook) for people with dyslexia is mixed. The disability affects such a wide range of people, producing different symptoms and varying degrees of severity, that predictions are hard to make. The prognosis is generally good, however, for individuals whose dyslexia is identified early, who have supportive family and friends and a strong self-image, and who are involved in a proper treatment program."

A common belief regarding Dyslexia is that the sufferers reverse letters, or change the letters in their mind when they attempt to process written information. In Dyslexia, this is not always true. However, in "Common Sense Dyslexia," getting things backwards and reversed is very common.

The Democratic Party is the first example of mass Common Sense Dyslexia known on the planet.

Okay, maybe I am being a little satirical (or perhaps cynical), here, but imagine if such a disability existed. It would explain a lot of the backwards actions and reversed thinking by the Liberal Left and the Democratic Party.

Democrat Pete Stark verbally assaulted Bush while debating the SCHIP veto, suggesting that President Bush was throwing money away into an "illegal war" and getting American Troop's heads blown off for the president's amusement. House rules prohibit personal attacks on fellow lawmakers, but that never stops the Democrats from their constant, malicious attacks of the Republican Party and President Bush's War Policy. Rather than condemning Stark's remarks, House Speaker Pelosi congratulated him for defending their attempt at sneaking yet another freedom-stealing piece of legislation through. And it is unbelievable that any American, much less a member of political office, would suggest that any president would willfully blow the heads off our troops, and enjoy it. The anti-military group of politicians is out of control, and their military-morale damaging rhetoric needs to stop. This is beyond reasonable, and borders on treason. By the way, the override vote did not work, and the SCHIP legislation remains but a socialist pipe dream for the Democrats. One more note, the SCHIP program, which would provide government sponsored health care for an estimated 10 million children in the United States that is in a situation where their parents can currently not afford the insurance, is a program that will precede systems such as a Universal Health Care plan, which, as you may know, in my opinion, is a failed policy in Europe and Canada, and will destroy our health care system as it is, and force you to participate in a government system whether you like it or not. No government should ever take away that kind of freedom. Understand, temporary health care paid by the government is sometimes necessary, but permanent dependence on such a system seethes with Marxism, and a loss of freedom. Democrats and Liberals (one and the same?) don't seem to understand this. Perhaps they suffer from Common Sense Dyslexia.

House Democrats on October 10th passed a resolution that recognizes as genocide the mass killings of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire during World War I. The resolution was idiotic to pass, not because it is not necessarily true, but because the timing was horrendous. The Democrats did not consider the current situation in the Middle East and how such a resolution would be perceived by Turkey, a nation that remains moderate enough in their Muslim Faith that they continue to allow the United States to use their country as a staging point for our dealings in Iraq and surrounding areas. Such a resolution could be disastrous to that capability. Sure enough, before the passing of the resolution, Turkey warned that "Turkey's ties with the U.S., already strained by attacks from rebels hiding in Iraq, will be irreversibly damaged if Congress passes a resolutions that labels the World War I killings of Armenians as genocide." Well, the resolution passed, and immediately afterward Turkey took steps toward a military operation in northern Iraq. And what is even more interesting is how Democrats are quick to accuse Islamic Expansionists from the Ottoman Empire of genocide nearly 100 years after the fact, but deny that Saddam Hussein committed such atrocities, or that Ahmadinejad plans to. There goes that Common Sense Dyslexia, again.

The liberal-minded thinkers over at Disney must be causing ol' Walt Disney to roll over in his grave. Radio Disney has decided to remove "God" from the 'Ten Commandments' movie ad because. . . well, actually, no reason was given, and it makes no sense since when someone watches the movie they will get plenty of "God" in it. Weird. Backwards. Common Sense Dyslexia.

In San Francisco some of the lawmakers came up with an interesting idea. The idea is to allow intravenous drug users shoot up under the supervision of trained personnel. The theory is that it will decrease overdoses, keep dirty needles off the street, and cut the risk of spreading AIDS and hepatitis C. Sounds noble, doesn't it? And, of course, these illegal drug users will be shooting up "safely" using yours and my hard-earned tax dollars. As one reader of SFGate said, "What's next? Giving them the drugs, too?" How about these people stop participating in a dangerous activity? They know it's dangerous. They know it's illegal. If they die from it, it's nobody's fault but their own. I feel for them, but the fix is not to make it easier to do what they do. Heck, send them to a church where they will help them break the habit. Don't assist them to continue it. Jeez. Common Sense Dyslexia again.

Sanctuary cities are cropping up all over the U.S., and these cities continue to break federal law without consequence. They order their police not to report illegal aliens (which federal law says is illegal), and they provide sanctuary for these illegal aliens in defiance of federal law, and endanger our nation because illegal immigration is also a National Security Issue. On October 16th the amendment SA 3277, sponsored by Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), was voted on. The amendment would deny federal "COPS" funding to cities who continue sanctuary policies for illegal aliens. The Democrats won the vote, and denied the amendment to pass. And while they were at it they pulled six Republicans across the aisle to assist in doing it. The amendment failed by a 52-42 margin. Backwards. Unbelievable. Common Sense Dyslexia.

In the Inland Empire, which is the inland region I live in in Southern California, The Youth Exchange and Study Program, created after 9/11, brings Muslim high school students from around the world to study in U.S. Schools and live with U.S. families. More than 720 students are in the program nationwide. The idea is to reduce anti-Muslim feelings in the U.S., and students proclaim that their new Muslim friends are surprisingly wonderful people. I am sure they are, but that doesn't mean that all members of Islam are peaceful like these students coming here seem to be. These students are peaceful despite Islam, not because of it, and one wonders how many of those 720 students has ties to terrorist groups. Perhaps none, probably some, invariably many. It would be like bringing members of Hitler's Youth from Germany to mingle with our kids during the 1930's. Backwards thinking. Common Sense Dyslexia.

And would you like some evidence of what Muslim youths are capable of in our society? in Amsterdam a Muslim youth entered a police station and stabbed two police officers before being shot and killed by a third police officer. Now get this. In response, Moroccan-Dutch youths rioted in western Amsterdam where cars were set on fire and stones were thrown through the windows of a police station.

Oh, and by the way, to show how peaceful this religion of peace truly is, today in Pakistan Former premier Benazir Bhutto narrowly escaped a suicide bombing that shattered her homecoming procession and killed 126 people hours after she returned to Pakistan from exile pledging to fight extremism and promote democracy.

As I was writing this piece, I had a conversation about my theory of Common Sense Dyslexia with John Bootie, and he said there is a flaw in my theory. You see, in order to have backwards common sense (or Common Sense Dyslexia) liberals have to have common sense in the first place, and Mr. Bootie believes they don't. He also said, "I say they see perfectly fine and they think you and I don't see clearly. I don't have any doubt they know exactly what they're doing with the SCHIP and Turkey thing and the letter about Rush Limbaugh. The Turkey thing was to disrupt supply lines to our troops, for example." In other words, they knew full well that Turkey would react as they did, and that is the whole reason for the resolution.

Well, so much for my theory of Common Sense Dyslexia.

In the end, however, I do realize that Common Sense Dyslexia does not exist, and the members of The Left do not suffer from it. But my explanation may differ just a bit from John Bootie's. My explanation for their actions and words are simple and can be defined with a few words: Stupidity, Idiocy, Socialism, Marxism, and Anti-Americanism.

By the way, in a show of true patriotism, and love for his men, General Peter Pace
left his stars at the Vietnam Wall
in Washington D.C. for his men. Flag Gazer wrote a great post about it. The interesting thing is that same day he dropped off his stars at the wall, he stepped down as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In her post Flag Gazer wrote, "This act of leaving his stars for his fallen men should not surprise anyone who has listened to him, read his speeches and watched his interactions with his troops. This is a man whose core essence is Lt Pete Pace, who dedicated his entire life to honor those he led. As his ranks became larger and larger, in his heart he remained Lt Pete Pace. He remained a Platoon Leader."

I agree with her.

The Truth About Government Run Health Care - Straight from Canada!!

Hillary Clinton is a huge proponent of Universal Health Care/Socialized Medicine. Those that support the idea proclaim that it's free health care for everyone. Michael Moore, in his movie, "Sicko," tried to explain how wonderful it would be to move our medical care into a socialist model, using Canada and Cuba as prime examples. I have a cousin in the San Francisco Bay area that constantly tells me that America needs to get up to speed with Europe. Democrats are even now pushing the SChip medical care program for kids of middle class families in an attempt to inject socialized health care into the system under the guise of "It's for the children - to reject it means you don't love the children."

I don't buy any of it, nor will I ever.

Don't get me wrong, the existance of government funded programs for people in need on a temporary basis is a blessing to many people that suddenly find themselves in a bad spot. However, the idea of these programs is that they should be a temporary fix until the person, or family, can replace the government assistance with private health care or employment sponsored health care. Welfare type programs should never be used on a permanent basis, nor should the government put a program in place that requires participation.

I have often asked myself, what if I don't want Hillary Care? What if I would prefer to pay for my own medical seperately?

Under Socialized Medicine that freedom is taken away by the government.

I thought this was supposed to be the land of the free.

John Bootie, Independent Candidate for the 2008 Presidency, recently received this e-mail from a friend who received it from another friend living in Canada.

Who better to tell us how wonderful or how crappy the Universal Health System is in Canada than a Canadian?

Well, if anything, for those of you considering moving away from freedom, and into the shackles of Government-run Health Care, this e-mail may open your eyes.

I saw on the news up here in Canada where Hillary Clinton introduced her new health care plan. Something similar to what we have in Canada. I also heard that Michael Moore was raving about the health care up here in Canada in his latest movie. As your friend and someone who lives with the Canada health care plan I thought I would give you some facts about this great medical plan that we have in Canada.

First of all:

1) The health care plan in Canada is not free. We pay a premium every month of $96 for Shirley and I to be covered. Sounds great eh. What they don't tell you is how much we pay in taxes to keep the health care system afloat. I am personally in the 55% tax bracket. Yes 55% of my earnings go to taxes. A large portion of that and I am not sure of the exact amount goes directly to health care our #1 expense.

2) I would not classify what we have as a health care plan, it is more like a health diagnosis system. You can get into to see a doctor quick enough so he can tell you "yes indeed you are sick or you need an operation" but now the challenge becomes getting treated or operated on. We have waiting lists out the ying yang some as much as 2 years down the road.

3) Rather than fix what is wrong with you the usual tactic in Canada is to prescribe drugs. Have a pain? Here is a drug to take- not what is causing the pain and why. No time for checking you out because it is more important to move as many patients thru as possible each hour for Government re-imbursement

4) Many Canadians do not have a family Doctor.

5) Don't require emergency treatment as you may wait for hours in the emergency room waiting for treatment.

6) Shirley's dad cut his hand on a power saw a few weeks back and it required that his hand be put in a splint - to our surprise we had to pay $125 for a splint because it is not covered under health care plus we have to pay $60 for each visit for him to check it out each week.

7) Shirley's cousin was diagnosed with a heart blockage. Put on a waiting list . Died before he could get treatment.

8) Government allots so many operations per year. When that is done no more operations, unless you go to your local newspaper and plead your case and embarrass the government then money suddenly appears.

9)The Government takes great pride in telling us how much more they are increasing the funding for health care but waiting lists never get shorter. Government just keeps throwing money at the problem but it never goes away. But they are good at finding new ways to tax us, but they don't call it a tax anymore it is now a user fee.

10) A friend needs an operation for a blockage in her leg but because she is a smoker they will not do it. Despite paying into the health care system all these years. My friend is 65 years old. Now there is talk that maybe we should not treat fat and obese people either because they are a drain on the health care system. Let me see now, what we want in Canada is a health care system for healthy people only. That should reduce our health care costs.

11) Forget getting a second opinion, what you see is what you get.

12) I can spend what money I have left after taxes on booze, cigarettes, junk food and anything else that could kill me but I am not allowed by law to spend my money on getting an operation I need because that would be jumping the queue. I must wait my turn except if I am a hockey player or athlete then I can get looked at right away. Go figger. Where else in the world can you spend money to kill yourself but not allowed to spend money to get healthy.

13) Oh did I mention that immigrants are covered automatically at tax payer expense having never contributed a dollar to the system and pay no premiums.

14) Oh, yeh, we now give free needles to drug users to try and keep them healthy. Wouldn't want a sickly druggie breaking into your house and stealing your things. But people with diabetes who pay into the health care system have to pay for their needles because it is not covered but the health care system.

I send this out not looking for sympathy but as the election looms in the states you will be hearing more and more about universal health care down there and the advocates will be pointing to Canada. I just want to make sure that you hear the truth about health care up here and have some food for thought and informed questions to ask when broached with this subject.

Step wisely and don't make the same mistakes we have.

Topsy Turvy World

California's Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is a Liberal in Republican Clothing. His activities as Governor, for the most part, embrace liberal positions, and some of it is absolutely insane. Providing yet another puzzle piece for the break-down of traditional families Governor Schwarzenegger has signed into law a bill that outlaws the words Mom, Dad, Husband and Wife in our public schools because such terms are perceived as negative to gays. Whether or not such a move may be offensive to people who value the traditional family was not even considered, apparently.

Meanwhile, a couple of activist gays dressed up as drag queen nuns and attended communion at a Catholic Church, and even gays were upset about it, but not the Democrats. They turn a blind eye to such activities, finding acts such as this, or the Folsom Street Fair and their advertising campaign before the fair, as not demeaning to Christianity.

Okay, message is clear. Society believes that it is offensive for anyone to voice that they feel that homosexuality is immoral, or that their antics are offensive. Heck, it's gotten to the point that even pornography in the neighborhood is fine with the members of our "enlightened" society:

And it seems that burning the American Flag is considered to be protected by the Supreme Court as freedom of speech - but burning a Mexican Flag will get you cited.

In Public Schools the word Christ, or the Christian Cross is banned, but in Britain Kids are being taught about the Muslim Faith and are being given homework assignments that basically celebrate Muslim holidays with Islamic symbology - how long before this begins here in the United States? Well, guess what? The U.S. Government finances bringing the teachings of Islam into American High Schools through aggressive student exchange programs.

And now the new morality has gotten so ridiculous that if a kid uses sidewalk chalk they are immediately fined for being a vandal and graffiti artist.

Oh, and do you remember that General Betray Us ad? Well, guess what? That seems to be just fine in the Liberal Mind, but to post an advertisement critical of MoveOn.org is reason enough to be banned by Google.

So let me get this straight: Calling homosexuality a sin is bad, but Homosexuals offending Christianity is fine. Pornography being filmed in residential neighborhoods is acceptable too, apparently. Burning the American Flag is a protected right of free speech, but burning a Mexican Flag is punishable with a citation. Putting a Christian Cross on anything in a public school (or praying to the Christian God for that matter) is bad, but giving kids assignments connected to Islam is fine, and Muslim Prayer in our public schools must be respected, and at the taxpayers expense we will even supply them with their own prayer rooms. Gay Sex in public was okay at the Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco, but kids drawing with washable chalk on the sidewalk is vandalism. And liberal sites and the liberal media can be critical all they want of what they want, but if an advertisement is critical of a liberal website, Google will be quick to ban the ads.

My, my, what a topsy turvy world we live in.

Flight 93 Memorial

Rather than memorialize those that gave their lives to bring down Flight 93 and protect the U.S. from suffering from a third target attack on 9/11, the designers of the Flight 93 Memorial are designing the memorial to memorialize the terrorists!

The Sky's Not Falling!

Al Gore has won the Nobel Peace Prize for junk science. This award comes to him shortly after a British judge ruled that Al Gore told a string of untruths in An Inconvenient Truth, and that children should be warned about these untruths before a teacher shows the documentary in the classroom.

Al Gore pleads in his new book, The Assault on Reason (which is more of an assault on the Bush Administration than it is about science), that "We must stop tolerating the rejection and distortion of science. We must insist on an end to the cynical use of pseudo-studies known to be false for the purpose of intentionally clouding the public's ability to discern the truth."

Perhaps Mr. Gore should follow his own advice.

Holly Fretwell agrees with Mr. Gore on the point about the need to stop tolerating the distortion of science. Holly is the author of "The Sky's NOT Falling! Why It's OK to Chill About Global Warming," the alternative to Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth, and Laurie David's fear inducing global warming kid's book, "Down to Earth Guide to Global Warming."

Holly Fretwell is an adjunct professor at Montana State University, and a Research Fellow at the Property and Environment Research Center. No stranger to controversial issues, Professor Fretwell has consulted on timber export regulations in the Pacific Northwest and for the Center for International Trade in Forest Products. She has authored and co-authored numerous articles on natural resources issues, with a current emphasis on public lands management and educating students and teachers in environmental economics. Her articles have been published in both professional journals and the popular press, including the Wall Street Journal, Journal for Environmental Economics and Management, the Duke Environmental Law and Policy Forum, and Journal of Forestry.

Professor Fretwell is our guest tonight on a special Friday Night edition of Political Pistachio Radio at 10 PM Eastern Time, 7 PM Pacific. Call in to chime in at 646-652-2940. If you listen live, feel free to join the always jumping chatroom - or you can feel free to contact me during the show with your own questions on Yahoo Instant Messenger (ID: douglasvgibbs).

This special broadcast of Political Pistachio Radio will immediately follow the premier of CIR Radio, on which I will be a panel member. This show combines the talents of myself, Jenn of Jenn's Jungle Republic Radio, Dave from My Point Radio, and Nikki Starr of Nicki Rocks the Politics. It will air live at 9 PM Eastern Time, 6 PM Pacific.

Media Manipulation

Dr. Richard Landes is a Professor of Medieval History at Boston University and the creator of The Second Draft, and a blogger at The Augean Stables.

He has analyzed a major dossier of forgeries around the dawn of the second millennium, and has established himself as one of the foremost authorities in the manipulation and abuse of media power at the dawn of the third millennium.

Tonight, he is our guest on Political Pistachio Radio. Tune in at 10pm Eastern Time/7pm Pacific to listen live, or catch the archive later. If you wish to participate in the show, join the chatters in the chat room at the program page, contact me on Yahoo Instant Messenger (ID: douglasvgibbs), or call into the show to ask your question at 646-652-2940.

Republican Debate and the Hope for a Red November

The hope for a Red November is little more than a year from now, and the first debate to include Fred Thompson aired last night. Granted, I wasn't sure if having Chris Matthews as moderator was a good thing, but MSNBC hosting the debate showed that the Republican Party is not afraid of fielding questions from the Liberal Left. In fact, a number of the Republican Candidates have come on as guests on many of the left leaning news channels. Rarely, however, do you see the Democrats willing to come on shows like Bill O'Reilly's, Sean Hannity's, or Brit Hume's.

Anyhow, watching the debate what I saw was a bunch of politicians acting like politicians. There were a few high spots and low spots, but ultimately, none of the candidates impressed me much.

And Guess what? The Media acted like the Media as well. The questions were often loaded.

But the two big stories are about Romney and Thompson.

According to Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney made a big mistake during the debate. Romney stated that he would consult lawyers before taking military action on Iran.

According to Fox News: “I can’t imagine John F. Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis … saying ‘I will check with lawyers,’” Giuliani said at an editorial board meeting with FOX News Channel in Washington, D.C. “It was one of those moments" when the candidate immediately wants to cover his mouth.

And how did Fred Thompson do in his first debate (better late than never, I guess)?

Well, he stood there mostly, and watched the pros go about their business. He watched Rudy and Romney spar back and forth, probably learned a bit from Huckabee's one liners, perhaps picked up a few pointers from Tancredo's strong position on immigration, and marveled at the intelligence that Duncan Hunter exudes. But for the most part, it seemed like Thompson was unprepared, although he did hold his own on substantive exchanges over the economy and foreign policy. Was he as bad on stage as Britney Spears at the MTV Movie Awards? Hardly. Perhaps he just needs a little more practice to keep from dropping that low.

So who won my vote last night?

The independent candidates.

The Legend of the Honest Politician

Okay, kids, today we are going to talk about the definition of oxymoron. No, that is not a moron dependent upon extra oxygen. An oxymoron, according to Yahoo Education, is, and I quote: "A rhetorical figure in which incongruous or contradictory terms are combined, as in a deafening silence and a mournful optimist."

So, it seems that Honest Politician is an oxymoron, or so it seems. Well, maybe there are a few honest ones out there, but they aren't running for any office. And this difficulty with honesty does not inhabit just one party. Both of the major parties, anyway, seems to be plagued with dishonesty.

Dishonesty seems to be permeating many parts of our society as well. All one must do is open the papers and see articles about dishonest cops, dishonest lawyers, dishonest preachers, and the list goes on and on and on.

It's a shame that dishonesty is such a problem, to be honest.

But where dishonesty seems to be used the most, of late, is when it comes to our environment.

Yes, that's right, I am referring to Global Warming and our good buddy, Al Gore. It seems that Mr. Gore has a lot of people believing that the sky is falling. At least that is what Holly Fretwell, author of "The Sky's Not Falling! Why It's OK to Chill about Global Warming," and this Friday's guest on Political Pistachio Radio, says. I suppose Al Gore is a modern day Chicken Little.

Anyway, a fellow blogger in Australia, Sonnabend, brought an article to my attention by e-mail regarding the dishonest Global Warming politician, also known as Al Gore, and his movie, An Inconvenient Truth. It seems that the documentary has some untruths in it.

What? A dishonest politician? Naw, tell me it isn't so!

Yes, my dear friends, even Al Gore is a straight out liar. Or at least, that's what a judge in Britain says (and I've been saying for a very long time).

In fact, according to the Herald Sun in Australia, a British Judge found 11 untruths in Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" and the judge ruled that before teachers could show the film, they must warn the children of the lies.

Here is a list of those 11 untruths.

1. The film claims that melting snows on Mount Kilimanjaro evidence global warming. The Government’s expert was forced to concede that this is not correct.

2. The film suggests that evidence from ice cores proves that rising CO2 causes temperature increases over 650,000 years. The Court found that the film was misleading: over that period the rises in CO2 lagged behind the temperature rises by 800-2000 years.

3. The film uses emotive images of Hurricane Katrina and suggests that this has been caused by global warming. The Government’s expert had to accept that it was “not possible” to attribute one-off events to global warming.

4. The film shows the drying up of Lake Chad and claims that this was caused by global warming. The Government’s expert had to accept that this was not the case.

5. The film claims that a study showed that polar bears had drowned due to disappearing arctic ice. It turned out that Mr Gore had misread the study: in fact four polar bears drowned and this was because of a particularly violent storm.

6. The film threatens that global warming could stop the Gulf Stream throwing Europe into an ice age: the Claimant’s evidence was that this was a scientific impossibility.

7. The film blames global warming for species losses including coral reef bleaching. The Government could not find any evidence to support this claim.

8. The film suggests that the Greenland ice covering could melt causing sea levels to rise dangerously. The evidence is that Greenland will not melt for millennia.

9. The film suggests that the Antarctic ice covering is melting, the evidence was that it is in fact increasing.

10. The film suggests that sea levels could rise by 7m causing the displacement of millions of people. In fact the evidence is that sea levels are expected to rise by about 40cm over the next hundred years and that there is no such threat of massive migration.

11. The film claims that rising sea levels has caused the evacuation of certain Pacific islands to New Zealand. The Government are unable to substantiate this and the Court observed that this appears to be a false claim.

A World Gone Mad - Between Hillary Care and the Slaughter of Christians

Word has it around the blogosphere and forums that Hillary Clinton's campaign manager, Patti Solis Doyle, is the daughter of a Mexican immigrant that crossed the border illegally originally before finally qualifying for a visa. For those of us that follow the illegal alien invasion closely this is indicative of Hillary's position on the immigration issue.

But. . . if Hillary supports the illegals, how come under her Hillary Care illegal immigrants would not be covered?

And speaking of Universal Health Care/Socialized Medicine/Hillary Care (so many names or such a ridiculous idea), it seems that some states are passing state sponsored health plans for children, paid for by smokers, and the Democrats would like such plans to be dictated by Federal regulation. Okay, I have a question. What if, as The Truth dot Com pushes for, everybody quit smoking? Then how would you pay for it?

And what if, as the Democrats seem to push for, we became a socialist state and everyone became dependent upon the government to pay for everything? And we all just quit working because the Government, as promised by the Democrats, will give us free health care, free this, free that. . . then how would they pay for it?

Oh, that's right, tax the rich, make them pay for it.

But what if, because of all of your social programs, Democrats, there is no longer anybody wealthy either? Then how will you pay for your programs?

Honestly, they don't know how to pay for such programs. The Liberal Democrats seem to think that increases in taxes are necessary. How about changing spending tendencies instead? How about cutting taxes, which enables more spending, which energizes the market, which grows companies, which increases incomes and jobs, which brings in more taxes as a result of the increased incomes and growing free market economy?

And while I'm writing my thoughts down, I have an example of how the world has gone absolutely mad.

In Nigeria, Muslims have killed ten Christians, injured 61 others, and burned down 9 churches. Why? A high schooler apparently drew a cartoon of Muhammad on the wall of a school's mosque, and when word got out about it, the rampage ensued.

Yet, Christianity is constantly attacked, and you don't see Christians going into riot mode over it.

Shocking.

The Compassion of Mrs. Pistachio

Last night's broadcast of Political Pistachio Radio became a little heated between Mrs. Pistachio and myself when Jenn of the Jungle brought up a story to illustrate the frustrations of folks regarding illegal immigration. The article she referred to is about a Mexican business owner in Reno that decided to fly the flag of Mexico higher than Old Glory. What really got the words flying is the discussion over a military vet that comes up and cuts down the American Flag from the pole as shown in an accompanying video.

Mrs. Pistachio, though she feels that she is an American first, is still a person of Mexican heritage. No amount of paperwork or words will ever change that. And though the argument by myself and many of my blogging colleagues is that this is not a racial issue, the sad fact is that the leading number of illegals crossing our porous borders is Mexican, and so the brunt of the anger by Americans is against the Mexican illegal alien.

As I said before, Mrs. Pistachio is Mexican, and she was actually born there before her parents immigrated here legally when she was a toddler. However, comparing Mrs. Pistachio to the current illegals that come across the border is like comparing most of us white bloggers to inbreeding rednecks from the Ozarks. But, as a white person I don't fully understand the pride of her heritage or how she must've felt when she watched the video of that military veteran cutting down the American Flag and yelling at the Mexican business owner. In her mind, when she looked at the confused Mexican business owner, she saw her father's face in the face of that man.

Perhaps the Mexican man didn't know that flying the Mexican flag higher was a Federal crime. Perhaps the veteran should have taken a different path to get his point across, such as going through the proper legal channels.

The point of the video was not legalities, however. It was designed to show how far the frustrations of red-blooded Americans have gotten regarding this issue.

My heart goes out to Mrs. Pistachio, and it is unfortunate that the vast majority of Mexicans, despite their heritage, don't seem to see the wrongness of what the illegals are doing, or the actions they take when here in the states. Mrs. Pistachio understands the importance of immigrating legally. She dislikes the illegal immigration invasion as much as I do. Unlike me, however, she has emotions invested as well due to her Mexican heritage.

But the anger of that military veteran that cut down the flag in the video is what all of this is coming to. And whether we wish this to be a racial issue or not, race is involved. Heritage is a large part of the group of invaders, and those illegal aliens share that heritage with a large number of Americans.

Frustrations are high.

I understand that if I moved to France (not that I would ever do such a thing) I would still be an American first in my mind. But there is a huge difference between that scenario and the one currently developing in the United States. First, I am not going to move to France. If I did, I would abide by their laws, including the ones that would allow me to enter their country in the first place. However, no country in this world has got anything to offer me what my beloved United States of America can offer me. This is why people try to come here. This is the place everyone wishes to be, and nobody wishes to depart from. America is the land of opportunity, freedom, and patriotic pride.

And let's not forget that this is not only an issue of right and wrong when it comes to the legalities of illegal immigration (and the burden it places on the taxpayer), and of whether or not the criminal actions of border jumpers should be rewarded, or if they should be sent back to their country of origin. This is also an issue of national security. Fact is, a large portion of illegal immigrants are of Middle Eastern birth, coming from groups that sponsor and train terrorism.

I just hope the Mexican business owner in Reno comes to realize this, and understands that the Military Veteran that cut down his flag, though a criminal act in its own right, did so out of frustration and fear for the country he was willing to lay down his life for. Mrs. Pistachio argues that the Mexican business owner in Reno did not know it was illegal to fly his Mexican flag higher than the American one, nor does he fully understand all of the things at stake in this issue.

What do you think?

Taken out just like that. . . / And: 3 Guests tonight on Political Pistachio Radio along with a free book giveaway!

On page 4 of this month's Smithsonian Magazine there is an article about the Kauri. The kauri tree dominates New Zealand, and one particular kauri tree, called Tane Mahuta, is a New Zealand icon that is found on stamps, tea towels, and post cards. But, in New Zealand, the kauri trees are in trouble, the victim of a small, unexpected, culprit. These beautiful big trees are being taken out by a microscopic fungus in the family of Phytophthora.
.
This is not a piece about environmentalism, and even if it was, it is important to remember that I do not support environmental activism nor well constructed lies using models based on erroneous input to push a religion of environmentalism like that of Manmade Global Warming. However, I do believe that we should be good stewards of the planet.
.
The point of this post is that these mighty trees, some estimated to be 2,000 years old and one measured at 169 feet high, are being ravaged by a microscopic fungus. Nobody saw it coming. Nobody even knew it was happening until the wild kauri forests, which once covered more than one-tenth of New Zealand's North Island, was reduced by more than 99 percent. Stephen King said, after watching a healthy 600 year old kauri near his home in the Waipoua Forest turn brown and die after only two months, "A beautiful big tree taken out just like that. It's hard to believe."
.
The infestation by another murderous pathogen is raging through Europe, Africa, and Asia, and is now showing advancement in the Americas and Australia. Civilization as we know it is dying, reverting back to the murderous barbarism of the middle ages. This infestation is called Fundamental Islam. Islamo-fascism is like that fungus is to the kauri. Slowly, without being noticed, it is infesting Western Civilization, and without extremely aggressive strategies, Western Civilization will die under the relentless attack.
.
Members of the left argue that Islam is nothing more than a different culture, and to respond in the manner that those who are fighting for the preservation to our nation does, is racist and irresponsible. Besides, many have told me (especially a trio by e-mail), do I really believe that the United States would allow such destruction of American freedoms by a small, radical group of hardly organized terrorists?
.
Can a microscopic fungus, left unchecked, eating away little by little, eventually bring down a massive kauri tree?
--------------------------------------------------
Three guests tonight will join Mrs. Pistachio and myself on Political Pistachio Radio. First, during the first segment of the show, we will be joined by Aaron Klein, author of "Schmoozing With Terrorists." Mr. Klein is an American journalist who had unprecedented access to jihad cells throughout the Middle East, and in those interviews performed by Aaron the terrorists revealed the details of their ideologies to him. By the way, Mr. Klein is a Jew. One listener will win a free copy of Mr. Klein's book - tune in to find out how!
.
Then, in the later part of the first half hour Terry Funderburk will pay us a return visit to talk about what has happened in his situation since the last time he was on our show. Terry is a South Carolina construction business owner who is going out of business because his competitors hire illegal aliens, thus pay lower wages to their workers. Terry, then, upset by the circumstances, protested with a sign in front of one of his competitors jobsites with a sign that indicated illegals were working on that job site. The police came, but not to take away the illegal aliens, but to arrest Mr. Funderburk.
.
Then, during the second half of the broadcast Mike Gray will call in to talk about his situation in Colorado. Mike Gray is an employee for Arapahoe County outside of Denver. When he is not at work for the county, he runs his own lawn care business. The truck he uses for his business is the same truck and trailer he uses for going to work at his day job with the county of Arapahoe. The sign on his trailer reads, "Lawn Services done with Pride by an English Speaking American." Because of the sign, his bosses at his job for the county threatened to let him go. Oh, he likes to wear a Border Patrol Cap too, by the way.
-------------------------
Oh, and if you haven't read about it yet, I wrote a post about how the San Francisco Bay Area is guilty again of anti-military actions.
